A brilliant, gentle soul has left us.

David Tom, just shy of his 60th birthday, has broken the chains of illness and flown to the skies, like the astronaut he was.

David’s mother Ellen, left us last year to ensure everything was organized for her son. In a world where so many loved him, the loss is profound. His beautiful love and strength lives on in his wife, Lori, his father Bob, his precious daughters Shelby (Cody) and Mylissa, step daughters Christina Kolisniak, (Jordan), and Chelsea Dow, along with grandsons, Jack and Kai, to whom he was affectionately known as Super Dave. He will also be missed immensely by his in-laws, Alan Walters, Sandra Taskovics, Andrea Walters, David Velikonja, and Jackie Kolisniak. He leaves the most wonderful memories with his life long friends, Craig and Andrea, Bill and Robin and Steve. So many other wonderful friends, neighbours, such as Josh and Jenn Reid, loved and will miss David as well.

David was a quiet, humble and kind soul who looked at life in ways we can only hope to achieve. He always saw the best in everyone and if it was hard to see, he worked his best to bring it out. He brought his own brand of patience, wisdom and calm to any situation, crisis or troubled heart. Anyone who knew him knew that he was an exceptionally intentional listener - a rarity in a world of talkers.

David was also a bright man who held degrees from University of Guelph and Mohawk College in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. He had a passion for computer science, space, cars, art and music, particularly the drums, and a love of all varieties of sports. David could coach youth soccer teams, write copious amounts of computer code, change a transmission in his very own driveway, install an entire kitchen and still sit with you and help mend your broken heart. He was an extremely gifted person and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

David was an unconditionally loving husband and father. He shared a beautiful love story and happy marriage with the love of his life, Lori, with whom he shared many wonderful adventures and created a loving and welcoming home for their blended family. His daughters, Shelby and Mylissa, were the pride and joy of his life and he took great pleasure in watching them grow into beautiful, young and capable women who will miss his guidance and witty quips dearly.

David fought his illness right to the end with a strength and courage that was inspiring to witness. While his cancer will never define how special he was as a person, it showed us all how strong and brave his spirit was and how much the ones he loved with all his heart also loved him.

You are the Bestest with the Mostest. Till we meet again.

Special thanks go out to Dr. Ghate and Dr. Kazem at the Oakville Trafalgar Cancer Center. To Dr. Margaret Found, Nurse Natalia, Brian Klooster, to Carpenter Hospice and all the family, friends and neighbours who showered us with prayers, love and a helping hand.

Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 12-1 p.m., until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Carpenter Hospice would mean a lot to David.
