He responds well to commands: he can sit, lie down, off, paw, spin, come, heel, and wait. He has made big improvements walking on a leash with an easy-walk harness. He has also learned to “look” and check in and to ask permission to go sniff. He will occasionally pull if he gets a good scent, but this is easily corrected. We blame the retriever part in him for this trait. He is working on being less reactive towards dogs and people approaching when he is on-leash. He is making good progress with this.
His forever family will need to be confident in advocating for his space. Once his triggers are out of sight, he quickly returns to calm following some commands.
He can be left alone in a dog-proof space. He has been left alone for up to six hours. He may occasionally bark at a passersby, but he quickly settles.
Tyson currently goes on three to four short (10–30 minutes) walks per day. He enjoys eating all of his meals with enrichment (e.g. Kong, snuffle mat, treat balls).
We recommend that his new home continue to set clear boundaries with him and provide him with a consistent routine. He LOVES routine. His foster family says that he is incredibly smart, and a very loving dog who would make a family very happy.
Tyson has been patiently waiting for a forever family who will love him and take care of him as he approaches his senior dog years. He also needs to be the only fur baby in the home.
