Issues with the crosswalk material caused the colourful pavement to break apart over time.

The three new wraps will last longer than the crosswalks and fare better in tough winters.

The City of Burlington has replaced three rainbow crosswalks with pride-themed pole wraps across the city, citing defects in the crosswalks causing them to winter poorly and break apart.

“It’s important to the city to ensure that #BurlON’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community is recognized respectfully,” the City of Burlington posted on X. “Our rainbow pole wraps, crosswalk, benches and banners are important features and key landmarks geographically and socially for #BurlON.”

The wraps have been placed at Upper Middle Road by the entrance to M.M. Robinson High School, Fairview Street at Drury Lane and Plains Road West at Botanical Drive

The rainbow crosswalks will be replaced by standard, white-stripe crosswalks.
