Sunday July 7 will see the 3rd annual Festival of Chariots, a free, full day event to celebrate India’s sacred and vibrant spiritual culture in the heart of Burlington in a colourful, vibrant, and family-friendly event.
Hundreds of people from all community groups will witness a parade in uptown Burlington - also known as Rathayatra - accompanied by a fervid menagerie of drumming, singing, and dancing in Millcroft Park, Burlington. The festival will continue with more celebrations where festival-goers will find outdoor pavilions and multiple tents with soul-stirring music, cultural shows, meditation, and activities, a free vegetarian feast, an acclaimed arts showcase, a South Asian Bazaar, a fun-filled kids area, and much more.
VIPs in attendance include: Burlington mayor & Councilors and Halton Regional Chair.
Festival Schedule:
- Sunday, July 7 | Parade 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.: starting at the main parking lot, Millcroft Park.
- Sunday, July 7| Festivities in Millcroft Park 12:15 - 4:30 p.m.: Participants continue with various events noted above.
The main attractions include:
- A free plant-based hot meal will be served indiscriminately to more than 600 + people.
- Indian and South-East Asian arts & cultural performances: dance, songs, and more will be showcased on the main stage and multiple other tents.
ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) inaugurated this ancient Rathayatra festival to the Western world, which has been celebrated for centuries in India and continues even today. With roots steeped in age-old spiritual traditions, Rathayatra festivals are now celebrated in every major city around the world.
