February 12th, 1928 - September 9th, 2024

Passed away with family by his side at Margaret's Place Hospice on Monday, September 9th, 2024 at the age of 96. Pre-Deceased by his beloved wife, Christina (nee Davidson). Loving father of Kathy (Paul) Zweep, Ann (P.G.) Madhavan, Janet (late Pete) Lyons-Boyter, and Andrew (Charlotte La-Rose). Proud grandfather of Heather (John) LeDonne, Erin (Karen) Brown and Dillin Bett. Dearly missed by great-grandchildren Lucy, Natalie, Jake, Harrison, Linden, Lily, and Colin, as well as loved family both here and in Scotland.

Charlie was born in Abernethy, Scotland in 1928, the eldest son in a family of seven children. At the age of 20, he made the decision to immigrate to Canada to join his two uncles. He boarded the RMS Aquitania in Southampton on July 5th, 1948, landing in Montreal before taking the train to Hamilton, Ontario.

After initially considering farming or working in industry, Charlie gained experience in carpentry and home building before establishing his very successful business, C.S. Bett Construction, and was a long-term member of the Hamilton Builders Association.

Charlie built numerous houses in the Burlington area, later focusing on home renovations, and became a very sought-after contractor known for his excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Shortly after arriving in Hamilton, he met the love of his life, Christina Davidson, in Burlington, and in August 1950 they married and he built the family home on the Guelph Line where their four children grew up.

In later years, Charlie served as a volunteer at Cama Woodlands Long-term Care and also as a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity Halton, for many years, drawing house plans and serving as site supervisor on many builds in the Halton area.

After Christina passed away in 2017, Charlie became an active resident at Pearl and Pine Retirement Home before declining health forced him to move to Assisted Living at Amica Stoney Creek in May of this year, where he remained until a recent hospitalization and short stay at Margaret's Place Hospice in Dundas, where he received excellent and compassionate care.

We will love you and miss you always.

If desired, donations in Charlie's memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity Canada, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, or Margaret's Place Hospice, Dundas.
