Passed peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the age of 95. Cherished wife of the late Archibald Loyson (d. 2010) for 53 years; loving mother of Paul, Clarissa (Terry d. 2023) Loyson and Tessa; and proud grandmother of Spencer. Mary was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Parish and will be deeply missed by her church family.
Born in East London, South Africa to Paul Wong Kun and Ah Chin You in 1929 - Mary was one of nine children. After meeting her beloved Archibald, they embarked on their married life in Port Elizabeth working side by side in their shop. In 1974, they took a courageous leap to immigrate to Canada with limited means in the hope of a brighter future for their children.
Mary was a passionate baker and consummate amateur chef. Her singular joyous mission was to feed the legions of family and friends who passed through her doorway. A talented seamstress, Mary made all the dresses for her eight bridesmaids and two flowergirls. Mary loved her garden and her piano. She also loved her tech - learning to text on her flip phone and becoming an enthusiastic Facebook and WhatsApp devotee. Mary’s kindness, ingenuity, determination, generosity and ever-loving spirit leaves a void that cannot be filled. She will be cherished forever.
Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 3:00 – 6:00p.m. A Prayer Vigil will occur at 3:00p.m. at the funeral home for those who wish to attend. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 287 Plains Road East, Burlington on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11:00a.m. Reception to follow.
