Burlington MP Karina Gould announced $8.5 million in funding for six businesses on Wednesday morning

The government of Canada and FedDev Ontario are providing six Halton and Hamilton businesses with $8.5 million in funding.

The loan will be split amongst n!Biomachines (pronounced N Factorial Biomachines), Aethon Aerial Solutions, GL Chemtec International, JFE Shoji Power Canada, Merk Automation Inc, and M&G Steel.

“Our hosts, n!Biomachines is improving productivity through the design, manufacturing, and marketing of bioreactors of larger sizes right here in Burlington,” Burlington MP Karina Gould said. “As a result, the company is enabling the adoption of affordable and user-friendly bioprocessing systems.”

The host Burlington business specializes in building machines for bioprocessing that can be used for development of food and supplements.

Vice president of operations Thomas Bailey said the funding will allow the company to scale up manufacturing, grow the team, and bring new technology to the Canadian market.

“We have an opportunity to scale up not only the types of products we’re creating, but also the throughput that we’re able to generation,” Bailey said. “We’re happy to have the opportunity to be working with different partners, and to be part of such an honrourable list of people who have received this funding.”

Gould added she toured the facility on North Service Road in Burlington both last year and just prior to the announcement, and is impressed by the work the company has done in the last 12 months.

“It’s exciting to be here a year later to see all of the work, all of the staff who have come on board to really make this a world-class and world-leaving facility for bioreactors,” she said.

Gould joked that she would be at a loss on how to operate the machinery, but a technician in food supplements and personal care would be able to put them to good use.

She continued that herself and Oakville MP Anita Anand visited GL Chemtec – a pharmaceutical company – in Oakville earlier in the day in addition to the tour of the n!Biomachines facility.

“These are just two examples of six incredible companies that are scaling up to support critical sectors like artificial intelligence, electric vehicles manufacturing, aerospace, life sciences, and biotechnology,” Gould said. “Together, all six companies represented in today’s announcement will increase their production capacities, develop new made-in-Canada products, address market gaps, reduce pollution, and create skilled jobs in Burlington, Oakville, and Hamilton.”

The event concluded with Gould being asked several questions regarding the Liberal’s loss of the federal electoral district of Toronto-St. Paul’s, naming a new candidate for the district, and if the party should replace prime minister Justin Trudeau as leader before the next election.

“I think he is the right leader for us, he’s won three elections, we formed government three times,” Gould said. “But let's be honest, the liberal party is a team party. He went about in 2015 to recruit really good, strong candidates that have helped for the strong caucus and cabinet that we have. We did the same in 2019 and 2021, and we’re going to do the same in 2025.”
