Hamilton Police have identified the victim of a long weekend shooting in Millgrove.

Police were called to a reported shooting on Highway 6 near 6th Concession E at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, where they say a fight broke out at a large house party in a short-term rental property.

They say the fight spilled out onto the highway where shots were fired at one car parked on the shoulder and another that had stopped at a nearby gas station.

“One male was located in the parked vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.  He was transported to local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries,” police said in a news release.

“The deceased has now been identified as 45-year old Tobenna Obiaga of Halton Region.”

He is Hamilton's fifth homicide victim of the year.

Two people in the vehicle at the gas station suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds and have since been released from hospital.

A fourth person suffered minor injuries at the house that police say were not firearm related. They have also been released from hospital.

Witnesses have told investigators that a dark grey sedan fled the scene of the shooting, but they do not yet have any further suspect descriptions.

“Police are still guarding the property and several cars left at the scene pending search warrants being issued later today,” police added.

“Investigators believe that there are numerous witnesses to this homicide that have not come forward to speak to police and those witnesses are urged to contact the Homicide Unit.“

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Ebert at 905-546-4167.
